The Epson Perfection V600 Photo manual says its slide holder can accommodate up to four 35mm slides at a time. That small capacity is useful for designing a collection log before digitising anything. It does not tell you how long a batch takes or how detailed the final files will be. This guide reads the English manufacturer instructions checked on 3 October 2026 and concentrates on the record rather than handling or treatment.
Give each slide an identity outside the image
Before planning batches, decide how the slides will be identified in your own catalogue. A short existing envelope reference or an assigned project identifier can keep the scanning session connected to the physical collection. Keep your added identifier distinguishable from original writing. The aim is to track the item, not to create an unsupported claim about who photographed it or when.
Write down which four items are intended for the first batch, or fewer if that is what the project requires. The holder’s maximum is not an obligation to fill it. A batch list helps preserve the connection between an original item and an eventual digital file, especially where several images show similar scenes. It is a documentation proposal, not a scanner feature.
Keep formats in separate queues
The source discusses film strips, medium-format film and mounted slides in separate sections. It also says medium-format film cannot be scanned using Full Auto Mode. A mixed collection should therefore not be described as one automatic slide job. Retain the format identity when choosing which part of the complete manual applies.
For planning purposes, make separate queues for known 35mm slides and other materials. Where format or condition is uncertain, leave the question open and seek appropriate help. This article does not recommend flattening curled film, cleaning an image layer or adapting holders. An important or damaged original may need object-specific professional advice before a scanning session.
Use the log to check completeness
After you have actual files, add their filenames beside the corresponding item identifiers and note which outputs were checked. A thumbnail visible in a folder is not enough to show that every planned item has a usable file. The log lets you identify a missing output without assuming that the scanner software used your intended naming sequence.
Separate the first scan from later edited copies. A collection record is easier to understand when the original output remains identified and any crop or adjustment has its own note. This does not prescribe a particular backup system or software entitlement. Operating-system compatibility and current Epson software availability require their own check.
What the equipment fact does and does not resolve
The documented four-slide capacity gives the batch plan a concrete unit. It cannot establish optical resolution, colour accuracy, scanning speed or the condition of a used scanner. Hobbies Mate has not measured any of those properties. A purchasing decision that depends on them needs evidence beyond the holder description.
The useful outcome is a modest, traceable session plan: exact scanner, known format, named originals, intended batch and eventual file mapping. Keep the manual link and check date with the plan. A scanning project becomes more valuable when someone can understand which digital image belongs to which physical slide, rather than when an untested specification is turned into a promise of perfect reproduction.
